Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort

Shawnee was founded in 1911. The resort itself was designed by C.C. Worthington. Worthington wanted to make this resort one of the most attractive resorts on the east coast. He did this by building a luxerious hotel. The resort has pleanty to offer its guests including target shooting, a small pettign zoo and a wildlife sanctuary. But most spectacular amenity of the resort is it's 18 hole championship golf course designed by none other than A.W. Tillinghast. This was Tillinghast's very first design. It became an immediate hit with professionals. It held many world class events in the years following its opening. It also proved that American golf course archietecture could match that of the Royal links of Britain.
